Thursday’s book launch and other sales raised more than $200 for the Soup Kitchen and the Susan Barber Memorial Bursary, plus enough food donations to fill two blueboxes. Thanks to those who were so generous. We’ll try to add to these totals at future events. Coming Thursday, Nov. 23: a reading, Q&A and book signing at the main branch of the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library at 7 p.m. UPDATE: Many still happy to donate to Soup Kitchen when I sign a book, so we’ll continue collecting at the Book Reading at the public library main branch Thursday at 7 p.m.
Winter’s first storm put a bit of a chill on the launch of Sex is a Four-Letter Word and Other Misconceptions at the Canadian Thursday night. But a surprising number slipped and slid along the streets of Sault Ste. Marie to join the party. Sad if donations to the Soup Kitchen and the Susan Barber Memorial Bursary suffered storm damage. But a more intimate turnout allowed this author more time to chat with old friends and get to know some who have been fans of the Humour Me column for years. A memorable experience for sure. Many thanks to my helpers and to those who faced the gales of November.
I’m not saying that if you don’t come to my book launch Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Canadian Motor Hotel on Pim Street this masked guy will show up at your door the next day toting a chainsaw. But hey, anything’s possible.
Play it safe, show up and buy a book, Sex is a Four-Letter Word and Other Misconceptions, for $15. I’ll donate $1 of that to the Susan Barber Memorial Bursary. And I’m asking those who want their copy signed to make a donation to the Soup Kitchen. Snacks will be served, but you’re on your own for booze; my offshore holdings in the Cayman Islands are not as extensive as you might imagine.
It has also been confirmed that I’ll be doing a reading (hopefully more of a Q and A) at the main branch of the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library, Thursday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. Free. More details later.
